Bono Regional Minister commissions a new dining hall at SUSEC

The Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu-Banahene on Thursday, December 14, 2023, commissioned and handed over an 850-seater new government of Ghana funded dining hall building to the Sunyani Senior High School.

Construction of the ultra-modern dining hall facility began in 2014 with the aim of complementing and creating a conducive environment for students who are using a 750-seater and 500-seater auxiliary dining facilities.

The new facility is fitted with state-of-the art kitchen, bakery area, a pantry, dish wash, stores, offices and a gas storage track amongst others.

Speaking during commissioning of the hall, the Bono regional noted that the new facility will provide a spacious eating area that permit students to enjoy their meals whiles solving the problem of students going for dining in shift.

According to her, government should enact a policy that will get schools with enough arable lands to grow agricultural crops for practical lessons and to augment the food that government provides through the National Food Buffer Stock Company.

‘‘The government is providing the students with food. That one, there is no two ways about that. However, if something like cabbage, lettuce, carrot, pepper and other things are cultivated, it will help’’.

‘‘Again, they may be some students who will come here who will have special diet because of their health. And so, if they [schools] can also get some of these items, by growing it on their own and then supporting such students with special needs I think it is in order,’’ she noted.

Meanwhile, the Headmaster of the Sunyani Senior High School, Mr. Gordon Osei Marfo expressed the school’s appreciation to government for completing the dining hall block.

He called on old students of the school to contribute towards equipping the new hall with ancillary facilities like tables, chairs to become fully operational.
